Costa Rica 2009
These photos are from our stay in Costa Rica: a tour of a local volcano crater, zip-lining over the waterfalls, an excursion to Tortuga Island for snorkeling, and some yoga shots on the beach near Hotel Los Mangos in Montezuma. What a fun week--such a great experience to share such a beautiful place with my yoga family!

South India Temple Tour 2010-2011
South India, land of mammoth temples of many hues dotting the landscape of Tamil Nadu, the rippling backwaters of Kerala, the incredibly ancient cave temples of Ajanta and Ellora--this was the destination for the South India Yoga Tour. I feel fortunate to have been able to share this amazing country with its rich traditions and wonderful people with a group of students and friends this past December and January. India, a land once touched, will change you forever and we will all carry a piece of this place with us in our hearts.

Bend, Oregon
Bend, Oregon, has to be one of the most beautiful places on the planet. We spent a week doing yoga, hiking to a volcano, soaking in natural hot springs, canoeing, doing a “bike and wine” tour, and just enjoying each other’s company in this serene environment.

India 2012-2013
On this retreat, we enjoyed a taste of Rajasthan. We started in Delhi with a cooking class and Bollywood Dance class at Komal Taneja’s home, then ventured on to Udaipur, the “Venice of India” for a few days of exploration and class with Dr. Dinesh, a local ashtanga-teacher who owns an ashram there. We visited Ranakpur, an incredibley-ornate Jain temple, and the “Blue City” of Jodphur, where we visited the old Havelis (townhouses), the towering fort, and a silversmith whose family has been crafting jewelry for the royal families of the region for hundreds of years.
Next, we visited Jaislamer, way out in the Thar Desert, for a camel trek and touring, then took a night train to Jaipur. Our final stop was the amazing Taj Mahal and some other local sites (Fatephur Sihkri and the “Baby Taj”). I book-ended the trip with Christmas in Goa with my sweet husband and a trip to Rishikesh with a friend where we meditated in Vashista’s Cave and saw the ashram where the Beatles stayed.

In October of 2008, we returned once again to Yelapa, the quaint little fishing village about an hour boat-ride from Puerta Vallarta. To follow are some photos from our excursion on horse-back to the waterfalls, of the picturesque little town, and, of course, some yoga photos!

INDIA 2016 / 2017
In 2004, I ventured to Mysore, India to study with Sri K. Patthabi Jois, and fell in love with a country. There is something magical, even unexplainable, about Mother India that brings me back time and again. I have now visited her eleven times, and brought wide-eyed groups of yogis, eager to see the land where yoga began, with me four times. In December 2016 through mid January 2017, we journeyed there again with some wonderful friends, visiting some of my favorite spots, touring some incredible archaeological and historical sites, staying in beautiful hotels, practicing yoga along the way, and experiencing the wonder of India together with friends.

In 1994, my husband, Alton, and I headed to Sedona, AZ for a week of mountain biking and hiking. Two months later, we had sold our house, packed up our cats, and rented a house in Sedona. We spent a magical year there, biking and hiking all over the four corners area. In those days, it was not uncommon to come across Native American cliff house ruins, still strewn with pottery shards and small cobs of desiccated native corn cobs, remnants of the Sinaguan Indian lives lived here so long ago. A sense of mystery and intense beauty still shrouds this sacred land. In the late afternoon, when the sun begins its descent, the red rocks begin to “glow,” almost fluoresce, for a few magical moments. And, if you are lucky enough to be atop Schnebly Hill or beside the gentle rush of the waters at Red Rock Crossing, in those moments right before the sun slips below the horizon, you will feel it—the pulse of the earth.
This ancient land has called to us ever since that first time we visited. We have returned year after year, hiking our favorite trails, season after season. And we are so excited to have finally found the perfect place to bring a group of yogi friends for a yoga/hiking Sedona Experience.
Marc and Heather Titus, founders of the Sedona Yoga Festival, have built a beautiful yoga space which I have rented for our use for a morning practice while we are there. One afternoon, we will be visiting Hananki and Palatki—quite amazingly intact Native American Ruins and pictographs. We will also be hiking the West Fork Trail, which should be ablaze with colored leaves that particular weekend, as well as hiking some of our other, favorite, trails. One evening, we will visit the Red Rock Crossing to watch the glowing rocks and have a sunset meditation. Those of you who mountain bike, will be able to explore the quite “technical” trails of the area.
